All year 12 students are invited to apply for these posts.

The process

Word processed letters of application (maximum 1 side) together with a word processed curriculum vitae should then be sent to the head of sixth form. Interviews will be held in November. The interview panel will consist of the Head of House and Head of Sixth Form.

Job Descriptions

House Captain

The most important aspects of this post are concerned with establishing and maintaining a good spirit in the school. Hard work and dedication, as well as confidence and flexibility are needed. The following is a list of specific tasks and responsibilities, not all of which are glamorous, that the House Captain would be expected to carry out:

  • To be a role model in terms of attitude, industry, manners and appearance to the junior members of the house
  • To liaise with the House Prefect & sixth form reps with regard to their duties concerning their forms. This necessitates a regular meeting with the House Prefects
  • To liaise with other House Captains and meet regularly with them and with the school leadership group on a designated morning break
  • To act as a liaison between House Prefect/reps and the head of house. This necessitates a meeting with the head of house at regular intervals
  • To assist a member of staff on his/her lunchtime duties
  • To help supervise house activities that may include
    • organisation of Christmas and summer fairs
    • inter house competitions
    • charity and fund raising events
    • To attend the house assembly
    • To deputise or arrange cover for an absent house prefect’s duties
    • To attend consultation evening with a year group and to assist the head of year with the evening's preparations
    • To organise assemblies as required for both the house and main school
    • To make arrangements for sixth formers to show visitors around the school
    • To organise House Prefect to check form rooms at lunchtime and ensure that the sixth form common room is kept tidy
    • To assist the head of house during the carol service
    • To attend school functions as required by the attached head of year
    • To carry out any other duties as required
    • To present an end of term report to the school in the final assembly and to take one school assembly per term
    • To wear the house captain’s badge

Deputy House Captain

The most important aspects of this post are concerned with establishing and maintaining a good spirit in the school. Hard work and dedication, as well as confidence and flexibility are needed.
The following is a list of specific tasks and responsibilities, not all of which are glamorous, which the Deputy House Captain would be expected to carry out:

  • To deputise for House Captain in her/his absence
  • To display qualities necessary for a position of responsibility: efficiency, initiative, tact, reliability and a cheerful willingness to work hard
  • To lead by example
  • To organise the selection, promotion and publicity of the house charity
  • To coordinate in the promotion and organisation of fund-raising events to do with the house charity
  • To coordinate the fund-raising activities of the houses by working closely with the Head Students and other deputy house captains. Know of any proposed plans for such activities and keep a record of the amounts raised by the house charity
  • To meet regularly with the Head Students. These essential lines of communication should ensure that messages and information can be followed up and that all students are aware of what is happening
  • To present an end of term charities' report to the house in the final assembly
  • To speak at various school functions
  • To assist a member of staff on his/her lunchtime duties
  • To help supervise house activities which may include
    • organisation of the Christmas and summer fairs
    • inter house competitions
