Process of Appointment and Job Description for Head Students

All year 12 students are invited to apply for these posts.

The process

Students have to put themselves forward for election by submitting their name on an official declaration form. The form must be signed by one other member of the sixth form and a member of staff.

If you are one of four who are selected by a ballot of year 12 and the staff you will be invited by the head teacher for interview.

Word processed letters of application (maximum one side) together with a word processed curriculum vitae should then be sent to the head teacher’s PA. Interviews will be held in November.

(This process is under review for the 2009 election).

Job Descriptions

Head Students

The most important aspects of this post are concerned with establishing and maintaining a good spirit in the school. Hard work and dedication, as well as confidence and flexibility are needed. The following is a list of specific tasks and responsibilities, not all of which are glamorous, which the Head Students would be expected to carry out:

• To organise and co-ordinate House Captains in their whole school role, leading by example
• To attend regular meetings with the head teacher
• To liaise with the school leadership team, heads of sixth Form and heads of house.
• To chair the lower school and upper school councils
• To speak at various school functions
• To make arrangements for sixth formers to show visitors around the school
• To meet with school governors
• To meet with members of the press and media
• To assist staff with the organisation of school events, jointly with the House Captains and Deputy House Captains
• Parents' and Open Evening (Sixth Form help)
• Sports Day
• Carol Service
• Year 7 Welcome evening
• Year 12 information evening
• Main school assemblies
• Leaving presents
• To undertake any other duties they may be reasonably called upon to undertake by the Head Teacher
